“Flight to Heaven” is finished.
With its’ too-closely spaced tones, inadequate contrasts, and difficulty of focus,
it is about that transient time when a soul leaves the earth.
Amid all of the love, confusion and beauty, it finds a wind Heavenward
and glides toward Peace.
Look at that gull in the sky. Can we follow it?
I was not there when you died.
They called to tell me. Where are you now?
I have tried to honour you with this painting.
You see the beach with it’s barbs? That represents your struggle.
You see the warm sand, my friend, my companion, my husband?
We scattered your ashes as you asked.

The final creation
Those hedgehogs of World War 1 made the beaches less easy to navigate.
Is getting into heaven like that?
I remember wading in the August shallows:
easy walking while the kids ran ahead.
It was a perfect sunny-clear day under a warm blue sky.
A perfect summer sky and clear sea day.
I say not ”goodbye”, but, “see you later”.
I am fine.
